The Year Of The Rem

I wanted to try and sum up the road between Remi Rough and ourselves as we prepare to hang his show for next months solo show. In honesty the road began at Selected Moments just over a year ago. Today I sit back and try and summerise the last twelve months that Remi has had. It has been an incredible year for him and i’m in awe at how much he has packed in. I hope this is an appropriate nod. We’re extremely humbled to be showing with him again.

A year ago – Selected Moments with Stormie Mills.

Upfest in Bristol before collaborating with Toasters.

Featuring in the Monokrome book and being involved in the infamous Recoat group show Rudimentary Perfection amongst SheOne, Duncan Jago, Jaybo Monk, Matt W. Moore, Augustine Kofie, Nawer, Morten Andersen, Poesia, Derm & Mark Lyken.

Remi went on to collaborate with Augustine Kofie and did a little work for Adidias at their flagship store on Oxford Street.

Remi flew to Hamburg to paint this monster.

Collaborating with System – Remi remembered 3 Kings.

Remi’s work then travelled to Perth to feature in For & Against The Truth curated by Stormie Mills.

Remi was then called upon by Wagamamas before collaborating with the infectious Dabs / Myla.

A real highlight for Remi was being asked to feature in the Underbelly Show in Miami – his piece was next level and didn’t hang around long. Beneath the citys tears.

He also did a series of murals in Miami however saved one for our One Year On show in December.

2012 was definitely the year of the Megaro Hotel – Remi set out to complete the biggest mural in London with his band of brothers the Agents Of Change. The building has received critical acclaim. The efforts were more than rewarded – it is quickly becoming the most photographed mural in the country.

Without any lapse or time to take breath we had Remi away to collaborate with Prefab77 at the Gibb St Warehouse in Birmingham.

Amongst print releases private commissions, requests, walls and adventures he has also flown to Melbourne (twice) to lead the charge of twenty artists who recently applied their signature style to some sneakers.

Remi is internationally known for his work, walls, and also his amazing character. He has been a friend to many and a true advocate of the scene in which we participate, constantly striving to push himself, and the people around him. We’re lucky enough to be considered friends and a year after Selected Moments we couldn’t be more excited about getting his solo exploits for 2012 in the gallery. I’m sure to have missed stuff out and not mentioned certain people, books, projects – don’t be offended – for once this is all about Remi.

This is definitely the year of the Rem. See what he has been working on come June 22nd / Unit44 Gallery.
